The Book of Kaufman

The Book of Kaufman is a mixed media creation project that contains spoken word, written word, video, music, photographs, plays, journals, movies, miracles, cartoons, puppet shows, personal diaries, and reality. 

"The Book of Kaufman" was submitted to CMG, the company representing the Kaufman estate, in early 2014.

The Book of Kaufman is created over many decades prior to and after the announced death of Andy Kaufman by Andy Kaufman. 

At the core of this project is absolute and incontestable proof that Andrew Geoffrey Kaufman born 1/17/49 SS #112-36-5432 did not die on May 16 1984. In his place died a man who had developed lung cancer from the herbicide "Agent Orange" sprayed over Vietnam by the American military during the war. A man Andy Kaufman met in a VA cancer ward in the Midwest. A man who Andy Kaufman desperately tried to save using any means possible... legal or not.

The release date of The Book of Kaufman will be announced Friday July Fourth 2014

Major Andy Kaufman Film Production Slowed by Deceptive Publisher

A little bird has told Andy Kaufman news that the inaccurate publication date listed by @benbellabooks and @amazonuk for the book " Andy Kaufman, the Truth Finally" has hampered production of the major motion picture "Andy Kaufman Lives" 

The upcoming film by internationally famous British director John Lundberg (which will undoubtedly be watched by internationally famous British radio personality @watko) has suffered possible delays due to this misinformation.

In the United States Amazon lists the publication date as October 7 2014. In the United Kingdom Amazon's crooked tooth step child Amazon UK has listed the publication date as 5/22/14. This in-turn has caused many red coated and down under online resellers to list the earlier date as well. Some of the more slimy fish and chip scented resellers bumped it up to 5/15//14 hoping to dupe fans even further.

Unable to reach Lundberg for comment we imagine he would say things like "this has really thrown a huge spanner in the works" "I made promises to backers that i would get a big batch of info from this book months ahead of the yanks... bloody hell" "I promised me mum a copy autographed by Zmuda, god knows if she will still be alive in October" "andy made you think with tricks and misdirection, this just feels like a lie..... Mates."

This could very possibly cost Mr. Lundberg's production pounds of pee and quids and euros and other monetary things.

Andy Kaufman Plans His Death

On the 15th anniversary of Andy Kaufman's death two books were published about Andy Kaufman. Both books quoted several sources that said Andy Kaufman had discussed plans to fake his death.

“Andy asked to speak privately to both me and Jack (Burns). We moved into a quiet room away from the others, and Andy closed the door, making sure no one besides us could hear. He told us he was about to embark on the greatest prank of his career and made us swear we would never repeat it to a living soul. He then told us it would be the biggest thing in the history of show business, then he lowered his voice and said, ‘I’m going to fake my death, go into hiding for 10 years, and then reappear.’ ”

Andy met with Saturday Night Live producer Bob Tischler and writers Barry Blaustien and David Sheffield to discuss possible ideas he wished to execute in the new season.Tischler recounted “…but then he (Andy) told the three of us, ‘You know the hoax I’d really like to pull off is my death. But I’m afraid of doing it-because when I do these things, I do them for real, and so I wouldn’t even be able to tell my parents. And I wouldn’t want to hurt them.“

Several people including Bob Zmuda, Andy's girlfriend Lynne, his brother Michael Kaufman, and many others have discussed Andy Kaufman making plans to fake his death. But it has always been their word against a dead man. Andy Kaufman himself has been silent on the matter. This has led people to believe the friends and family are honoring Andy Kaufman in a style befitting him. Or perhaps keeping the mystery alive to sell more books.

Fake death rumors, like all the "truths" behind Andy Kaufman's act, have always been hearsay. Andy Kaufman never told you that Zmuda played Clifton, that was Jim Carrey in the 1995 tribute special. Andy Kaufman didn't tell you the Lawler slap was planned, that was the movie and both books. All of these tricks of the trade have only been revealed by other people long after Andy Kaufman's death....

It is a recording of Andy Kaufman and Bob Zmuda improvising and joking for the recording. They are revisiting a theme they had discussed for several years. How does Andy fake his death and how will fans react. "Won't the fans hate me?"

The mystery around the publication date of the new book by Bob Zmuda titled

has been solved... partially.

According to a tweet from BenBella Books @BenBellaBooks:

 "Thanks for your support! ANDY KAUFMAN: THE TRUTH, FINALLY will be available October 2014!"

Tweets asking why Amazon UK has a publication date of May 22 have not yet been answered.

 

New Andy Kaufman movie gets new director

Director John Lundberg is really excited to announce that Miragemen co-director/producer Roland Denning has joined Kaufman Lives as co-director/producer. Internationally famous radio personality Ian Watkins said director Lundberg told him the movie will most likely be released in 2015

Sunday the 27th 2014– “FAN”-DY KAUFMAN! – During the Hollywood Collector Show a few weeks ago, Tony Clifton introduced me to a filmmaker named Kevin Michaels who is doing a new documentary on Andy Kaufman.  He asked if he could interview me for his film and I of course said yes.  But as a bonus, my folks got interviewed as well!  They talked about my early aspirations to do Andy’s act at high school talent shows and functions.  My mom used to darken my sideburns with her mascara, while my dad took 35mm slides of my various characterizations.  We were quite the team!  When all was said and done we drove over to the Coral Café for some lunch.  We came home, fed the animals and got ready for evening church.  After church we walked home and the evening weather was stunning.  My parents had just made it through a horrible South Dakota winter and were really enjoying the great weather, both here in L.A. and in Palm Springs.  I took a quick nap then got up around 11 to take the folks to Jerry’s Famous Deli for a late dinner. They wanted one last bowl of Jerry’s famous soup before they went back to South Dakota.  We got some groceries on the way home, and then I put the folks to bed and I did my auditions.  What an action packed week!  The folks leave first thing Tuesday morning.
